Double Strollers: What would you recommend, if any? Or did you even bother with one?

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

For parents with a (or had a) young toddler and a new baby, can you tell me what you’d recommend as far as a stroller goes? I’ve been looking at two.

The first is the Baby Trend Sit and Stand double stroller. It’s a typical in-line double stroller, and the rear seat comes off when the toddler is older so they can just sit on the platform or stand on their own. It comes as a travel system. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4279629&prodFindSrc=search

Or should I get a jogging stroller? I was looking at one of the Phil & Ted Explorer Buggy strollers where you buy a double kit, and it becomes a double in-line stroller. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4452629&prodFindSrc=search This one can carry different brands of infant car seats to make it a travel system.

I guess my problem is that I have two Evenflo infant seats and neither of them are going to be any good to me once this new baby comes, if I want a double stroller.

So…in saying all of that, do you think I’d be better off with option #1, where it comes as a travel system and I don’t have to purchase another car seat separately, option #2, where I’d have to additionally buy the conversion kit plus another new car seat, or my 3rd option: to just use the stroller that I have (that is also Evenflo and I can use the seats I already have, too, and let my toddler walk everywhere?

What worked best for your family? Did you find your toddler did well without a stroller? Carson is really good in stores…we don’t use a stroller for her at this point, and I just hold her hand or let her walk a little ways in front of me. But with a new baby I can see that becoming very difficult to do.
It’s just me: No, not all car seats ARE interchangeable. I tried my evenflo on the Baby Trend Sit and Stand. It doesn’t click to latch it on securely. So in that case, it ONLY fits THEIR brand. The Phil and Ted jogging stroller fits Graco, Maxi Cosi, and Peg Perego. Not Evenflo (I have also tried this).

Trust me, I would not have asked this if it weren’t a VALID question, so don’t act like answering it was a complete waste of your time.
Response to It’s Just Me: Listen, I have been in contact with the company, both Evenflo for my car seats and the companies that sell the strollers. Yes, Phil & Ted’s DO sell a conversion kit for the car seats I’ve listed, you’re right. But they do not have one for Evenflo seats. Likewise, as far as the other stroller (the travel system) goes, there IS no conversion kit available. I’ve spoken with them. I’ve tried it in the store with my car seat. It’s a no go. So before you go off saying "Oh la la la, they all fit, I must know what I’m talking about"…take a moment and actually LISTEN to what I am saying. I have done my research, I’ve tested and tried. Evenflo is one of those brands that not many stroller companies support. So yes, I totally want to go out looking for an excuse to spend between 0-0. That was the exact point of my question (sarcasm).

Double stroller with storage basket that can be gate-checked?

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

I am looking for a good (not too expensive) double stroller (must be under 20 lbs for airports) that can be gate checked at an airport. Any toddler parents out there have a double stroller that you can recommend that you have successfully gate checked at a airport? I am traveling soon & am trying to get prepared. I know I can use a double umbrella stroller, but I need something a bit larger that has a storage basket below the seats. Any suggestions?

Suggestions for a good umbrella stroller?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

I’m looking for a new stroller for my 10 month old. the only one we have is the one that came with our graco travel system and that’s just way too big to maneuver around. I can’t find anything on craigslist that we’re looking for so we’re going to buy new.

I need one that’s not too expensive I guess, and one that folds easily and compactly. The travel system one doesn’t even fit in my trunk.

I was thinking of a mid-range price one — does anyone have the chicco umbrella strollers?
like this:

I’d love a Maclaren but they’re too expensive. should I just suck it up and save up for it or do you like your less expensive kind just as much?

any insight on umbrella strollers is greatly appreciated. thanks.
thank you for your help guys!

artie lange fan, I was thinking about getting the BRUS umbrella stroller for a second – does it hold up well? the green is such a great color (online anyways).

Toddler & Baby – Umbrella stroller? San Francisco trip?

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

we are flying to san francisco this weekend – 2 1/2 yr old & 10 month old – will be staying a week visiting SF and bay area to Santa Cruz. Anyhow – 1st time flying with them. I understand umbrella strollers are the way to go – I’ll have to go purchase today – DO WE NEED A TWIN Umbrella STROLLER? Or would 2 singles work OK? I’m thinking of logistics of sightseeing…cable cars, ease of folding & carrying. And – how is the JEEP TWIN UMBRELLA for folding & carrying (again, cable cars, etc) Right now I have: 1 Maclaren Techo for toddler & Combi stroller frame (pop carseat into it) I use at home. The twin umbrella is harder to find – so cant decide if I should just go for 2 singles? thanks

Lightweight stroller but not an Umbrella one?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

I am searching for a lighter stroller to replace my travel system but not an umbrella stroller. I was looking at a few at Babies R Us, an Especially for Kids one and a Chicco one….

What lightweight stroller do you prefer?

I had a friend who swears by her Maclaren but I’d prefer not to spend 0 on one there was a 9 one I was looking at.

Also- I saw this Jeep one and was wondering if it is the same as the other Jeep umbrella strollers or slightly bigger, more of a lightweight one? The picture makes it seem bigger but I think it might be the umbrella one, just a little better.

Question for moms with umbrella strollers?

Monday, September 6th, 2010

I want to purchase a lightweight umbrella stroller. A major feature that distinguishes certain umbrella strollers seems to be the ability to recline.

Did you find that you used the reclining feature on your umbrella stroller? Is it unnecessary? I’m sure it’s nice to have, but is it a luxury that I & my baby could do without? I don’t want to spend money on a feature that I may hardly ever use.

Thanks.

Any umbrella stroller recommendations?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

My daughter will be 8 months old on the 15th and I am interested in getting her an umbrella stroller. I have the Chicco Cortina stoller and love it but I want something more compact & lightweight. I am interested in the Maclaren, but still not sure. Should it matter if the stroller reclines or not? I have tried the inexpensive umbrella strollers but at 5’5" I have to bend down to push it. Thanks for the info! :)
